Tip #27: Washi Tape Decor for Ugly Renter Hassles

Lovely Tip #27: Washi Tape Decor Over Ugly Closet Hardware via www.whatmandyloves.com
Renting apartments or condos can come with some minor, first-world-problem hassles out of your control.  For example, my apartment's closet doors have this thick metal bar over the doors for some reason and it's downright ugly. (Is it to hide the door brackets or something?)  I can't do much about it other than cover it up, and I found an inexpensive renter-free way to do that:

Temporarily hide or decorate what you can't change in your rental using washi tape!

I covered the "closet guard" or whatever you call it on one side with tape and it looks so much better.  Figure out what fits your style and budget and have fun with the endless possibilities washi tape has to offer.  It's cheap, comes off clean from walls and other surfaces, and it can be found in any color or pattern almost anywhere.

As for other eyesore and cover-ups I've seen, there's chords to electronics wrapped or taped down to look like vines using green washi tape, or patterns on an entire wall with multiple tapes to avoid painting, and so much more.

I got this particular orange roll at an office supply store for less than a dollar and it covered the entire thing!  Now I have an orange accent to match my room ascetic. :)

(Shameless plug alert: Doesn't this look good next to the extension chord I wrapped with yarn? The chord wrapping technique is super easy and found here on whatmandyloves.com.  I use the chord to plug in my candy-shaped lights hung up high.)

How do you decorate or hide ugly things in your home?  Do you have a washi tape hack to share?  Let me know in the comments!
